SLIDE:
THE ROAD TO EILAT
TUESDAY 14:00
EXT. ARAVA ROAD ON THE WAY TO EILAT – DAY
Shortly before Eilat, the friends pass an Egyptian military patrol, but they do not encounter any difficulty.
ANNOUNCER (VOICE OVER)
The war in Eilat was short. With the announcement of the surrender of the Israeli government, Egyptian forces penetrated into Eilat and cut it off from Israel, while Jordanian forces deployed from Kibbutz Yotveta to the north. Many Israelis managed to escape in their ships from the city and the port was emptied within a few hours. The others who remained in the city were collected and transported in trucks to collection points in temporary concentration camps, where many foreigners worked. When the Egyptians encountered the Toyota pickup truck, it was already at least two days after the city had been emptied, therefore they did not expect any warlike action. For them, the war was already over and now they were simply "on a post-war vacation". An organized looting campaign was launched in the city by senior officers of the Egyptian army with the participation of some of their soldiers. Most of the looting was focused on the hotel area of Eilat.
The Qatari flag softens the Egyptian patrol who is content with waving from their jeeps.
