Journey – Page 78

Eli Calls cheerfully towards the Egyptian officer, while emphasizing the words "Castro" and "Cuba".

ELI (VOICE OVER )

Hoping you choke.

YEHOSHUA

He says he's giving you a gift from Castro and Cuba.

The Egyptian officer takes the cigar and rolls it between his fingers. He smells the tobacco and then nibbles the end of the cigar with his teeth and spits it out. He lights the cigar.

EGYPTIAN OFFICER

              Shukran. (Thanks)

The soldiers smile as Eli scratches his few-days-old-beard and then proceeds to demonstratively scratch his sweat-stained armpits. Yehoshua surveys the vehicles and sees that all the Egyptian soldiers are concentrated around them. Everyone is enjoying Eli's performance. “He really stepped into his role,” he mused. After a second he comes to his senses, quietly picks up his unsecured Kalashnikov without attracting attention and pulls the trigger several times, dropping the Egyptian soldiers and their officer on the asphalt into various stages of fatalitys. Eli and Yehoshua bend over, making sure that the soldiers and the officer are all dead. They quickly drag the corpses across the mound of dirt beside the deserted road, hiding them from those who might pass by on the road. The women and the child meanwhile get out of the vehicle and join Yehoshua and Eli. They touch in disbelief the large bronze body of Mordechai Anilevich, having difficulty digesting the fact that it is in their power to save the famous Israeli sculpture.
