ANNOUNCER (VOICE OVER)
From Rosh Ha'Ein, Yehoshua and Eli plan to go south through the airport, Lod and Ramla and from there south to Gedera and the south of the country. Here, too, they decide that one must go through detours, ones that will not be congested. From the Gedera junction, the friends decided, they would go south, not through Kiryat Gat towards Beer Sheva where they were expected to encounter military convoys, but rather to Gan Yavne and from there south towards Ashkelon, through Sderot to the Saad junction, to Tze'elim. In this way, they will avoid unnecessary encounters with foreign military forces as much as possible.
EXT. ON THE ROAD TO ASHKELON – DAY
A small desdtination from Ashkelon, the small convoy encounters a long column of Palestinian trucks, accompanied by many jeeps of Palestinian military and intelligence forces. Since the convoy is standing, the road is temporarily blocked. Yehoshua and Eli get out of the vehicles and move on foot to the front of the convoy.
The trucks contain large cages in which captive, wounded, torn clothes, hungry and thirsty IDF soldiers are kept, sitting in unacceptable positions due to the terrible overcrowding, like chickens in their cages.
Most of the soldiers are in a state of near fainting, most of them are dehydrated and the few among them who are still fully conscious rub their hands through the cages in an effort to arouse the pity of those outside. Yehoshua and Eli walk alongside the trucks, clenching their jaws tightly o prevent themselves from carrying out any foolishness associated with suicide, due to the overwhelming number of armed guards.
