Journey – Page 62

INT. DINING HALL OF SEVERAL RESTAURANTS – DAY

Eli tells everyone to move aside and shoots the locks with one of his pistols, causing  the still building to tremble. Yehoshua follows him and pulls up the shutters of the shops. The first store they open is a typical shawarma restaurant, where the friends found some spoiled meat in the fridge and several bottles of Coca-Cola, other soft drinks and bottles of mineral water. The second store is a Chinese restaurant where the girls discover in the pantry about ten bags of rice weighing a kilogram each. They pour on the gas a large pot they found in the kitchen and fill it with rice and mineral water. The third store is an Italian restaurant where they find stale yellow cheese and some vegetables, some of which were still edible. In the pantry they find about twelve cans of canned tuna, olives and pickles, and in another place about eight more cans of corn and even two canned pineapples. The last store is a small branch of a hamburger chain and in it the friends discover a freezer that still miraculously keeps the hamburgers from rotting.

The girls rejoice and add the hamburgers to the frying pan. Huge bags of chips are also pulled out even though they have already partially thawed and are making their way to be fried in pans. Here, too, the group’s “treasure” is enriched with a large number of bottles and cans of drink.

YEHOSHUA

Today we will stay here, and at night I will go out to look for my wife. We will eat well and rest. We will also have more than enough to make sandwiches for tomorrow.

Eli caresses his shrinking stomach in disbelief.
