INT. NIGHT. MINE
Tom paces around the fire incessantly, while the anguished cries of Claudine fill the background.
TOM (filled with concern and frustration)
It has been eight hours since we arrived, and the birth doesn't appear to be progressing.
Silence.
CLAUDINE'S FATHER (troubled)
My brother and son haven't returned from hunting yet. I'm unsure what's keeping them away for so long.
A long silence follows, but suddenly, the cry of a newborn baby echoes through the hall. Tom lifts his head, astonished by the sound, and approaches the women at the side of the hall. Claudine's mother hands him a bundle wrapped in cloth.
CLAUDINE'S MOTHER
That's your son, Tom. Take him.
Tom, filled with excitement, cradles his son in his hands, tears streaming down his face. He then kneels beside the exhausted and sweat-drenched Claudine, still holding their son. He places the baby on her stomach and chest, enveloping them both in his embrace.
Tom and Claudine's father sit around the fire, eating. Claudine's mother changes the baby's diaper, revealing his naked body.
CLAUDINE'S MOTHER (to her daughter)
Have you seen this little one? He has a birthmark shaped like a butterfly on his back.
CLAUDINE (lovingly embracing her baby)
Yes, I've noticed. Tom also has a similar mark. I hope this is a good omen.
Inside the mine hall, near the fire, Tom and Claudine's father are filled with both joy and worry.
CALUDINE'S FATHER
I'm afraid they got caught in the storm.
TOM
Knowing them, I believe they will be fine.
INT. MONING. INSIDE THE MINE
The first light of dawn wakes Claudine's father. He stands up, walks over to Tom, and whispers to him.
