Lara – Page 28

MANAGER (with a playful gesture to Lara)

That, my dear, you'll witness firsthand.

Tom mutters something unintelligible, his gaze shifting back to the crack in the sealed curtain, his confusion evident as he peeks into the hallway. The manager approaches Lara and embraces her, simultaneously whispering into her ear.

MANAGER (whispering to Lara)

He's remarkable. You should give him a try. He has served as my lover for the past two years.

Lara appears utterly bewildered. It's clear that her sexual experience is limited, and the manager's words fail to register with her. Meanwhile, Leroy stands beside her, indifferent to the manager's whisper to Lara. Although he's aware of the content, he shows no interest in Lara and instead focuses his gaze on Tom most of the time.

THE MANAGER (whispering)

His source lost his reproductive capacity in a radiation accident at the reactor, but he still possesses the capacity, size and congestion…

Lara is embarrassed while the manager suddenly erupts into boisterous laughter.

OTHER MANAGER (wearing a pink jumpsuit, approaching them with a jubilant smile)

Hi there. Please come with me.

The group proceeds toward the edge of the structure. An attendant in an orange jumpsuit approaches them, carrying a tray with cups of soft drinks. Tom surveys the structure with his eyes. It bears a striking resemblance in appearance and functionality to the previous building they occupied, albeit on a smaller scale. Just beyond the small platform at the end of the hall, opposite the desert hills, train tracks extend all the way to the entrance of the loading platform.

OTHER MANAGER

These train tracks have been here since before the war. They used to be part of a transportation route that crossed the desert many years ago. It is said that these rail lines lead beyond the snow-capped mountains to the green areas on the other side of the desert. That's the direction you'll be heading.
