Lara – Page 27

LARA

Yes, Tom. I remember the moment of my birth. Every android remembers their birth. It's an indescribable pain, but it brings tremendous happiness for the life we have earned, the consciousness we possess, and the implanted memories.

Tom looks back at the distorted face under the lid, which is now obscured by a multitude of clouds, making it impossible to see what's happening inside. He shivers.

TOM (pleading, his breath visible in the cold)

Let's leave here, please. I don't feel well.

INT. DAY. BACK IN THE MANAGER'S ROOM

Tom collapses onto one of the chairs. At the manager's signal, a maid quickly brings them cups of hot, steaming tea.

MANAGER (friendly and smiling)

I promised you two surprises. Here's the first.

The manager claps her hands, and a side door opens. A tall, athletic black android enters the room, approximately thirty years old, wearing a brown jumpsuit.

MANAGER

This is Leroy. We've decided to send him with you to assist you in crossing the desert. He is incredibly responsible, strong, and resourceful. We've made arrangements for him to be free at the end of the journey, allowing him to decide his own path. It's a great opportunity for Leroy.

Tom scans Leroy's muscular arms.

TOM

Without a doubt, he can lend us a hand. The sheer quantity of supplies needed to traverse the desert will pose a challenge for our movement.

MANAGER

There's no one quite like Leroy who can assist you in this matter. As a skilled and astute warrior, he will be capable of safeguarding you.

LARA

And what is the second surprise?
