While she was still speaking, a peculiar and loud metallic dragging sound could be heard. Two androids stood on a small trolley, operating a small metal "swing" with their hands, located in its center, causing it to move along the tracks. They emerged from around the bend of the building and stopped near the platform. The other androids on the side observed the bustling activity, as bags of food and water containers were loaded mostly on the edge of the small trolley. Another android placed two mattresses across its width. Some installed makeshift poles with a cloth cover above them on all four sides to protect against the intense sun. They checked the strength of the cover to ensure it wouldn't tear or become loose. The manager was pleased with her employees' work.
MANAGER
I recommend leaving in two or three hours, in the afternoon. This will give you plenty of time to make progress before nightfall and avoid traveling during the hottest hours of the day. We know that the track is in good condition for the first fifty kilometers, but beyond that, we haven't checked. We haven't gone any farther.
They stood and watched as the androids finished loading the equipment onto the trolley.
TOM
Why didn't you go beyond 50 kilometers?
MANAGER
As each android here has a specific role, there are no idle ones among us. While we are all engaged in various tasks, it is unusual to embark on an unknown journey. (Smiling suddenly), but I would gladly join you.
EXT. AFTERNOON. ON THE TRACKS AT THE BUILDING'S EXIT
Both tracks shimmered in the still dazzling sunlight. In the distance beyond the tracks, a few hundred meters away, the desert mountains came into view. Dry plants peek out between the train tracks and the gravel. The tracks themselves showed signs of wear and rust from disuse. The trolley was overloaded with bags of food and water containers. Mattresses lined the sides, and a makeshift blanket roof covered them. Tom stood in front of Leroy, and they attempted to activate the metal contraption between them to set the trolley in motion. It took several minutes for the two of them to work as a team, but then, like a magic carpet, the trolley gained momentum and within minutes vanished among the desert sandhills, while Lara waved goodbye to the motionless androids, near the stationary building, gazing at them. The manager's face bore a hint of sadness.
