INT. DAY. INTERIOR OF THE MINE
A swift glance reveals that the android warriors have infiltrated the mine. The lifeless bodies of his newfound family are strewn across the surface. His girlfriend, Claudine, lies naked and battered on the dark tracks, subjected to both rape and mutilation. Tom desperately searches for his baby but to no avail. He sinks to his knees beside his girlfriend's lifeless form, embracing her with tearful agony, her warm body still unyielding, her vacant gaze fixed upon the mine's ceiling.
He reignites the remnants of the fire, then takes up a burning torch, scouring the far corners of the chamber in search of his son. Descending the ladder toward the shaft where water lies, he illuminates the surface but finds no trace of his child. The androids have seemingly abducted him.
With faltering steps, Tom emerges from the pit. Standing at the entrance of the fractured mine, the desert landscape unfolds before him. He collapses to his knees, clutching a dagger, and cries out to the heavens.
TOM (screaming)
Why? God, why?!
He crumples to the ground, consumed by sobs.

INT. NIGHT. IN THE ROOM OF THE YOUNG PRIEST
Lara, Tom, and the young priest turn their attention to the bustling table. The atmosphere is jovial.
THE YOUNG PRIEST
More wine, perhaps?
Without waiting for Tom's consent, he refills his glass. Tom attempts to stop him, but the priest adamantly persists.
THE YOUNG PRIEST
Where are you headed? I understood you planned to cross the mountains?
TOM (delicately perfumed)
We aim to reach the settlement of Bethlehem of Galilee, situated beyond the snowy mountains and across the desert.
