Lara – Page 36

LEROY

We can rest here until tomorrow morning.

TOM (dreamily)

That's a blessed idea, resting here until tomorrow. My back and hands are already aching from our morning climb.

LARA (wandering through the ruins)

Look! They approach a corner of the room, beneath a pile of debris and broken, half-burned chairs. There, they discover a human skeleton.

LEROY (philosophically)

Who knows what happened here?!

TOM (nervously mumbling)

This place feels familiar to me. This place feels familiar to me.

Restlessly, he wanders around, his hand constantly scratching his head.

INT. DAY. HALF-BURNT ROOM

Amidst the wave of debris, a skeleton lies in the corner of the burnt room. For years, it has endured the heat of the day and the cold of the night. Tom, with hands on his forehead, is on the verge of a shocking discovery. Suddenly, Leroy leans over. On the skeleton's shoulders, he notices something sparkling. Moving the skeleton, its bones crumbling, he retrieves a golden chain with a small, filthy golden pendant. The pendant, covered in layers of dirt and mud, protrudes from between the ribs of the skeleton. Tom feels queasy and retreats to the shaded corner behind the remaining wall. There, he collapses, leaning against the wall, breathing heavily. From another corner of the room, four additional skeletons lie nearby, silently observing. Lara joins Tom and sits beside him, offering him the water container, while Leroy stands above them, occasionally glancing at the "orphaned" trolley left behind on the tracks, around 100 meters away. When Tom drinks a bit and regains composure, Leroy hands him the necklace. Tom opens the heart-shaped pendant and discovers a tiny picture of a woman.

TOM (with intense emotion as he whispers)

Mother! Mother!

Tom passionately kisses the small jewel in his hands, trembling uncontrollably with tears and sobs.
