EXT. DAY. ENTRANCE TO A SETTLEMENT
A fleeting image of a pile of charred corpses lying on the roadside at the entrance of a settlement. A soldier pushes the photographer away.
CUT TO
Loud, almost unbearable noise of seagulls screaming.
EXT. DAY. BEACH IN TEL AVIV
Yoram sits on a rock at the breakwater, his eyes closed. Gentle waves break at his feet. His brother-in-law, Michael, approaches him. Michael, a sweaty and overweight man of 45, wears an American baseball team hat on his head, and large stains appear under his too-narrow T-shirt. The seagull cries fade away.
MICHAEL
Hey, Yoram. I've been looking for you all morning. Iris told me you were walking along the beach.
Yoram glances at Michael without changing his sitting position or opening his eyes fully. He seems unperturbed by his brother-in-law's presence.
YORAM (indifferently)
Hello, Michael. What's going on?
Michael appears shocked by Yoram's mental and physical state. Yoram looks gaunt and unkempt, as if he hasn't shaved in days. He gives the impression of someone on the verge of becoming homeless.
